KENNY’S KOUNCIL was created in memory of Kenneth T. Jones. Kenneth was a “Gentle Giant”, his presence of strength permeated any room in which he walked in. He was kind, thoughtful, and a protector of those he loved which were  admirable characteristics. Kenneth had dreams and aspirations as any young man does, there was only one difference between him and many others. He had a mental illness that was not diagnosed until his adult life.  There were competing voices in his head that he tried to quiet by self-medicating with prescription and nonprescription drugs.  Kenneth was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and depression. It was difficult to find treatment facilities that would accept him unless he was a harm to himself or others. Access to care became an issue but Kenneth’s mom fought hard to find a treatment facility that would speak to his specific condition. Kenneth had cycles of “normalcy” and bouts of paranoia. All in all, Kenneth was a blessing to his family and friends who lovingly called him “Big Rod”. He was a believer in God and family. However, due to physical and mental challenges, Kenneth passed away at the age of 40 years old. He contributed to society by being a staple in his family. He made a difference in the lives of his family and friends which caused us to want to help others who are facing the challenges of mental health. There is an awareness and understanding that comes concerning mental health when it knocks on your door. No one is immune and no one chooses a life filled with these challenges.

Kenneth’s mother, Mary, did everything within her power to secure assistance for her son. She saw the potential for greatness that was being thwarted by the ongoing battle of mental impairment. Some barriers hindered access to care. The stigma that surrounds mental illness prevented individuals from seeing the person within. They only saw the label attached. Kenneth’s mom was constantly by his side trying to get him the best care possible. She was always encouraging, uplifting, and praying for her only son. Mary's tireless efforts to provide her son with stability and unconditional love were not in vain. He knew he was loved, he mattered, he was important and so he tried to live the best life could regardless of the battle within.

Kenneth's sister Pamela decided to create Kenny's Kouncil. It is with great pride and honor that Pamela and Mary jointly endeavor to help those facing some of the same issues encountered by our family. It is their intention to help those in need of encouragement, guidance, and resources. The focus of this organization is to educate, empower, and equip others who require mental health resources while making the day brighter for people suffering from mental health problems.

Join them on this journey to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness.
